Two On The Shore

The title is for Tischer and I being back on the shore of Lake Superior and stoked for adventure from our new home in Grand Marais, Minn. We are Two on The Shore.

You can find me at Lutsen Resort as their new Director of Activities & Recreation, a role that I am extremely excited about.

This winter is shaping up to be a busy one between some freelance writing opportunities, an adventure film to work on, and a stream skiing project I've undertaken with another buddy.

Also check out the kayak expedition I completed with a good friend in 2010 (www.superiordream.com).

A Personal Best!

NSIM 2008 is now long over. In fact, it seems like months ago only because I have been on trail for over 2 weeks doing something completely different from inline skating. Still, as I think back to the race on September 13, details are clear and vivid. I managed to beat my previous times, which is always my goal. I finished the 26.2 mile course in 1 hour and 50 minutes. My previous best time was 1:56 a few years ago.

Go to this link (click on the "open class-marathon" link and enter my bib number below: 5095) and you'll see my personal statistics compared to the rest of the field of racers. If you want to see some stellar pictures taken by the contracted photography company during the race, check out this link (up until Nov 2).

The weather was great, DRY and cool make for good skating conditions. A slight head wind but not enough to bring me to curses. For the last quarter or so of the race, I was invited into a drafting line and up until the last off-ramp to the finish line we alternated positions, saving energy along the way.

Inline skaters can be a funny group of folks but either way I look at it, this event is a lot of fun, a personal challenge, and it does a super job of maintaining a certain level of cardio shape. All things I appreciate and look forward to throughout the year. It is a farily unique event and sport (this race is the largest in the U.S. with nearly 4,000 skaters each year) and one that I'll continue to do.

I'll also continue to leave the spandex at home.
